About Us
Originally from Southern California, our family purchased this property in 2011 to create a quiet self sufficient and sustainable life in Northwest Montana. We took our time to design and build our own family home at the back of property right up against State Forrest Land. We also started a hobby farm, raising goats, chickens, livestock guardian dogs, and organic fruits and veggies. Sadly, a recent extreme wind event caused damage to our property and put a temporary pause to those activities. We love to share our special sanctuary with other like-minded people and to collaborate with other Montana businesses that offer unique and special experiences. We have worked very hard to acquire and keep a Conditional Use Permit from Flathead County to be able to share our property with people looking to peacefully retreat in this special place.
What We Do...
Lisa manages vacation and retreat accommodations, farm stays and destination experiences at Wild Swan Retreat. Prior to her family’s relocation to Montana, Lisa enjoyed a career in Public Health, planning, implementing and evaluating a variety of prevention programs for Santa Barbara County. Presently, she works from home, managing her family’s household, property, livestock animals, and their retreat and vacation accommodations. She loves to create the perfect space for groups, families, couples, and individuals to break away from their ordinary lives to reconnect with each other, their sources of inspiration and the natural world. She also loves to write and has recently retooled her public health writing skills to write creative non-fiction. She particularly enjoys writing about climate, social and personal change, and is currently working on a memoir and occasional articles that weave these themes together.
Monica operates her own law firm, Falcon Media in 2013, and currently practices from her Montana home-office, serving clients primarily in Los Angeles and New York. She’s an expert in negotiating and writing contractual agreements, however, her true passion is to write and speak about the social, political, economic, and spiritual challenges of our times. Monica uses her life experience, skills and unique perspectives to advocate for an awakening to the forces that divide and distract us. Her blog, Unplugged, invites readers to consider and challenge the illusions that underlie the institutions that are failing all of us, and to recognize our power to remake our country in a way that works for everyone, not just those at the top. Over the past five years, Monica launched a new career as a social change writer and speaker . Her work can be found at her website Lets Get Unplugged. Her recently published book, The Illusion of Division, explores the relationship between rising political and racial tensions and the accelerating economic decline of America, reminding us that we can still save our country if we find the courage to see each other as allies instead of enemies. Recently, Monica has stepped into the position of Executive Director for the Foundation Against Intolerance and Racism (FAIR).
Morgan is enthusiastic about doing most things. He beams with positive energy and good spirit. He loves sports of all kinds and is very skillful at basketball, mountain biking swimming, snowboarding, surfing, and Jiu Jitsu. He loves to play the drums and is in his high school jazz band. In his spare time, he forges knives and is learning to pilot an airplane. He likes to take things apart to see how they work and builds things. He enjoys interactive video games and watching TV. Morgan is very social and wants to share everything he loves with a buddy or two, at school, on sports fields/courts, on the mountain, in the ocean or lakes, or simply at home on his wooded property.
When not working or at school, our family loves to go out to eat delicious food, prepare meals together at home, watch good movies or TV series, play board/card games, river raft, kayak, bike, ski, and swim. We love to travel to visit with extended family and to explore new places. Our favorite destinations are in Santa Barbara, San Juan Islands, Tahiti Hawaiian Islands, Mexico, Northern California, Colorado, and throughout Montana and the Pacific Northwest.
